Places To Know
This was actually an okay book. The photos are typical 70's quality though, yellow tinted color pictures and dull black and white photos that lack good contrast. Aside from that the photos are of interesting spots. This is a good book to introduce young kids to landmarks and famous places.
I thought this entry was kind of funny; a statue that no longer exists talking about itself in the first person. "But, every once in a while, men find bits and pieces of the bronze that used to be part of me." really struck me, like that scene in the Wizard of Oz where the Scarecrow is exclaiming how the flying monkeys threw his legs over there and his torso over there.
What I really noticed were the fantastic illustrations at the beginning of every chapter, all done by Fred Steffen, really they are almost the only illustrations in the book. Sadly there is hardly any information about Steffen except being mentioned here and here as an illustrator.
